Two Reasons Not to Buy MacBook Air

You’ve got to hand it to Steve Jobs, the man is a marketing genius. The man is so good I think we should give him the world’s supply of oxygen and then lease it back from him. Lets make him Emperor. Hail Steve, Lord of the Hype. Only He could give a 90 minute presentation that could be distilled down to Naught. Zero. Zip. Other than the new MacBook Air that is.
A super slim - the slimmest in the world - notebook. Multi-touch trackpad, widescreen display, 1.3kg and 1.94cm at its fattest, 0.4cm at its thinnest. Who wouldn’t drool over this one eh? Well me actually. Whilst my greed and tech genes are combining to compel me to pop over to the Apple Shop (just to have a look you’ll understand), there are two big reasons stopping me from selling my children to get my hands on this little beauty:
1. It is unbelievably over-priced. us$1799 for the entry level 1.6GHz model. This translates using the Apple Rip Off Currency Converter to a whopping stg£1200. Using conventional currency conversion this should be more like stg£900. So Steve, I am not prepared to pay a 33% premium just because you don’t wear a mask and hold a gun.
2. Its actually too thin. As a notebook I would want to take it on business trip pretty regularly. My kids would want to haul it to school, to friends, on vacation. And guess what? We will need to buy a protective sleeve for it. Something with a couple of inches of padding no doubt. So to me, thin notebook = fragile notebook.
I will resist the urge and stick with my MacBook. Thanks anyway Steve.
