MOOVYPLAY integrates Thomson’s NexGuard watermarking
Thomson has announced that Moovyplay has selected NexGuard™, Thomson’s state-of-the-art content security solution suite, for implementation into its portable movie rental service. Moovyplay is a venture developed by Paris-based CPFK, France’s leader in DVD rental services with 2200 outlets under three retailer brands: Video Futur, Cinebank and Video Pilote.
The partnership marks the first integration of a digital video watermarking solution into a portable video device. NexGuard will be embedded into customized handheld devices created both by Moovyplay and Archos, which will allow customers to conveniently rent movies by loading dozens of titles at one time from an in-store kiosk onto their device.
To kick-off the partnership, “Moovyplay Césars 2008 Limited Edition” devices were recently used as movie screeners for selected panel members of the 2008 César Awards. The Césars Awards is the national film award ceremony of France and this year’s winners will be announced on February 22 in Paris.
“Thomson is committed to preventing content piracy across multiple platforms by offering a broad range of security solutions for the digital landscape,” said Jean-Luc Moullet, vice president of Thomson and head of the Software and Technology Solutions business. “The partnership with Moovyplay continues Thomson’s track record of delivering digital security innovations that facilitate the growth of digital entertainment.”
The NexGuard watermarking solution will dissuade unauthorized copying and
redistribution of rental movies loaded onto Moovyplay devices. The integration of NexGuard into the portable video devices allows content owners to trace back a pirate copy to an anonymous rental transaction number and trigger appropriate warnings.
“Thomson is a global leader in video technologies,” said Anne-Laure de Montety, CEO of Moovyplay. “We are pleased to partner with Thomson to offer Moovyplay users a brand new viewing experience and flexibility, while ensuring that premium rental video content is always securely managed.”
Thomson’s NexGuard suite has been exclusively designed to serve the media, entertainment, and communication industries, and delivers the most wide-ranging line of products to track and secure digital audiovisual content throughout production, post-production, distribution and exhibition.
