EyeForTravel are reporting that WAYN members are to be given the option to earn money by having advertising placed in their member profiles. This will allow members to effectively create a web shop on their profiles where products and services can be offered by a third party. The move also signals advancements in social media sales and marketing strategies. The payment to members is triggered by click through resulting in a purchase and is strictly opt-in.
Co-founder and co-CEO Jerome Touze sees this move as an evolution of targeted marketing. ‘We like to think at WAYN that we are more flexible than most at providing bespoke campaigns for advertisers, so we thought we would combine resources with Buy.at and open this up to our members, to offer them a similar form of bespoke solution.’
With everyone eager to find ways to monetize social networks, WAYN has decided to put its members first. The challenge for many travel companies is how to distribute in social networks and this move may signal an effective strategy that can place a travel brand inside the network without it seeming intrusive.
WAYN claims to be the fastest growing travel and lifestyle social networking community website in the UK. WAYN is present in 220 countries and membership has grown from 45,000 users in March 2005 to over 10 million today. WAYN helps users to keep track of contacts from around the world and make new friends.
