Playfirst, $16.5m and a mouth full of corks
It looks as though PlayFirst, a leading publisher of casual games, has raised $16.5 million in its Series C financing round led by DCM. Existing investors, including Mayfield Fund, Trinity Ventures and Rustic Canyon Partners, also participated in the round. Previously, PlayFirst raised a total of $10 million in its Series A and B rounds, bringing the current total of venture capital raised to $26.5 million.
The company develops ‘casual’ games, meaning simple, visually attractive and hellishly addictive time wasters. Personally I would sooner sit chewing on a mouthful of corks and watch the world through a cab window rather than play casual games. But it seems I am alone. PlayFirst’s portfolio of games includes the record-breaking hit Diner Dash which has more than 150 million plays worldwide. Kids eh!
